Imams Kicked Off Plane For Praying

The title says it all. Honestly, what's next? Doesn't the first admendment protect our right to practice our religion? Now praying could get one kicked off a plane. That's just retarded. I've prayed in the airport before, does this mean I can't anymore? Seriously this is BS!! I just don't understand. These men did NOTHING. Why were the police called and why were they removed? How is prayer threatening? Why are people so stupid?
Many Muslims are making a lot of effort to educate people about Islam, but it seems as if it's falling on deaf ears. Things are not getting better for us; as we can see, they're getting worse! No one even makes any attempt anymore to justify their prejudice and discrimination. Islam does not promote terrorism, nor do I, but the way things are going, it's not hard to see why Muslims want to get back at the US. What's going on here is oppression and I foresee that things are going to get worse before they get better. May Allah protect the Muslims and punish those who perpetuate injustice. Ameen.

New Season of Sleeper Cell
I saw a teaser for the new season of Sleeper Cell on Showtime last night. I CANNOT wait for Dec. 10. That show was so awesome and totally underrated. I like that it gives a complex view of terrorism and the terrorists on that show aren't "stereotypical." What I don't like is that while the protagonist, Darwyn, is knowledgeable about Islam, speaks Arabic, and is supposed to be a practicing Muslim on the show, he goes around fornicating. Why not let him act the way Muslims are supposed to so that non-Muslims would get an idea of that? All they see on this show are hypocritical Muslims from the good guy, Darwyn, to the bad guys, the real terrorists, who also happen to drink and fornicate, as well as kill innocent people.
The funniest thing to me was how he refused to eat pork while he was having dinner with the girl he's sleeping with. Since when did eating pork become like the hugest sin in Islam. Seriously I know people who would drink and fornicate, but God forbid someone tries to give them pork. I don't get it. It's like ok, I'm going to do every wrong thing imaginable, but keep pork away from me! Okie dokie, that makes a lot of sense

Marriage--WTH is the big deal???
It's been a chaotic summer and I've basically been a refugee so that's why I haven't updated. That and I didn't really have anything to say about anything...until now. On the first day I went back to work, one of my coworkers started asking me when I'm getting married etc. etc. I explained to her that I work full time and I go to school full time, and I'm also doing an internship for my teaching license. When would I have time to meet a guy, let alone get married, and be a decent wife?? I explained this to her and she said these days women are waiting so long to get married and then when they finally want to get married, they can't find anyone to marry them or they can't have kids. Now, I'm used to the marriage question from the Islamic community, but my cousin got married this summer and I guess my family took it to mean it's my turn. Seriously, it seems I can't go a day without someone bringing up marriage to me. People give me a break, I'm 22! Yes I know that's old by Islamic and even Guyanese standards, but come on. I don' t even know if I'm ready for the responsibilities of marriage or if I even want them.
Why is marriage the end all be all to so many Muslim women and women the world over? Why am I being looked down upon because I'm choosing to finish my education before I get married and not vice versa? Marriage is seriously not that big of a deal to me. I understand that it's half my deen, but frankly my life won't end if I don't get married and my life is not lacking because I'm not married. I'm somewhat financially dependent on my parents now and when I leave their house, I refuse to be dependent on anyone else. I don't want to put myself in a position where I need a man to take care of me. Some men use being the sole breadwinner as leverage to get away with whatever they want to (abuse, infidelity, etc.), and their wives can't do anything because they're not independent. I see it happen all the time and I refuse to let it happen to me. It's fine and dandy if some girls want to get married at 18. If that works for them then hooray but that's not for me. I need to know I can get a decent job if I need to and not to toot my own horn, but I'm intelligent. I'm really not trying to sound arrogant, but why shouldn't I live up to my potential?
I hate it when other people think they know what's best for me. I don't take it upon myself to tell anyone how to live their life so why do people feel to need to tell me? I know this one guy who insists that I need to get married and how he'll find me a guy etc etc. Get a freaking grip! This idiot is not married himself, but he desperately wants me to get married. As of right now, I don't need or want anyone to help me find anyone. I think I'd be a good wife, but get it straight: I DON"T NEED TO GET MARRIED. I still don't understand why other people are more worried about when I'll get married than I am. What's it to you anyway? It's not like when I get married it'll be some big event. I'd go the masjid, sign the papers and have a small dinner for family and very close friends. If I take the plunge, I refuse to spend an extravagant amount of money on a wedding. I think it's wasteful and superfluous to have these huge affairs. That's not meant as judgement on anyone. Just personally, I don't intend on throwing away money on a wedding.
Funny enough, the idea of not ever getting married is not what worries me. It's what people will think and say that worries me. I know every where I go I'll carry the stigma of the unmarried woman. People will wonder and talk amongst themselves about what's wrong with me. I'll prolly have to wear a scarlet S (single) or U (unmarried) on my clothing. It's already started, if you can believe that. My aunt has already told me that I need to get married because I don't want to end up like this friend of my mom who's a spinster. Why is that so shameful? Why are people so unnerved by unmarried older women?

I Prefer to Have Faith in Allah
Me: It says in the Quran that Allah guides whom He will and misguides whom He will and whosever Allah guides no one can misguide. It's obvious to me that you've made your mind up about everything and nothing I say can change that unless you're willing to open your mind and listen. You think my soul is lost and I'm going to hell etc. etc. and that's just dandy. The entire congregation of my mom's and my former church thinks that. The peace and the relationship that I have with God indicate to me that I won't go to hell because I'm Muslim but only God knows that. I'm doing what I think God wants me to do and if I go to hell for that so be it. Where in this world do Christians have their land taken away from them? Where are they oppressed simply because they're Christian? Because that's the case in Palestine and the strapping bombs on is a reaction to that oppression. I decided to pick pieces of Billy Bob's e-mail and respond to them and send it back to him. The quotes from him will be in blue to differentiate between my comments and his.

Innocent people are not killed at the hands of Islam. They're killed at the hands of terrorists. It says in the Quran that to kill one innocent person, is like killing all of mankind. There are various other verses from the Quran that condemns murder that I'll share with you if you like.
not to mention jesus set all pagan religions strait when he said he was the way the truth and the life.if any man tried to get to the father without going thru him,the same was as a thief and a liar.

As for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We agree to disagree because we know the situation isn't black and white and it's far from simple. I didn't like the bombing of Afghanistan and the murder of innocent Afghanis, but I knew Osama and his cronies were hiding there. However, Iraq had nothing to do with that. Saddam wasn't responsible for 9/11. The US claim to be there liberating Iraq, but the truth is more Iraqis are dying and more women are being raped than when Saddam was in charge. They only made the situation worse for the Iraqis. As for Middle America, you fear Islam because you don't know about this. This fear then leads to hate. Ignorant people shun and fear the unfamiliar and that's Middle America in a nutshell. You talk about hatred of whites? Middle America hates everyone who ISNT white.

Billy Bob and Me
Me: Actually there are such things as former Christians. I've read the entire Bible and up until 3 years ago I used to go to church every week. Until I realized that I was wrong and what I believed was not based on what Christianity is. It's a very complicated story how I came to that conclusion, but suffice it to say I did a lot a prayer and I believe that God, the creator and sustainer of mankind guided me to this path.
That said. Islam is not a religion of hatred. Show me evidence of this. You said you like to hear the other side. Well if you do go to this site My Islam . That's my blog. Go the archives on the side. It addresses things like suicide bombing and violence and popular misconceptions that Americans have about Islam. Believe me Billy Bob, I already know that my religion isn't welcomed here. The truth is rarely ever welcomed when it disrupts the status quo. You and Bush and millions of others consider Islam to be an enemy of the US. I don't know why but this is the case. Those terrorists that were responsible for 9/11 will be in hell with the soldiers who are killing innocent Iraqis.
Considering that Israel is responsible for the murders of innocent Palestinians and the stealing of their land, I really don't care what they think. Ask yourself Billy Bob, even if Islam is wrong, would Jesus your lord and savior agree with your hatred of ALL Muslims? Would he like the fact that innocent women are being raped in Iraq and their families murdered? Regardless of your religion, murder is murder, rape is rape, and injustice is injustice. This war is nothing but injustice and oppression as Iraq as nothing to do with 9/11. What do you think Jesus would think about this war? If I remember correctly he was nonviolent.

Exchanges with a Born Again Christian
I recently read on AOL news about a soldier, Steven Green, who raped and murdered a 14 yr old Iraqi girl and also murdered her family which included young children and her mother. As a human being, I was outraged by this nonsense because it seems like every day something like this happens in Iraq with the supposed liberators victimizing the Iraqi people. Nonetheless someone posted a comment on the news message board that was something along the lines of: "This typical of a white man. White people constantly victimize people of other races and get away with it." Someone else posted a response which was basically a racist comment against black people because they thought the original poster was black. So then I posted and said that the original poster is not necessarily black because every single race on the face of this Earth has been oppressed by White people in one form or another whether it be the French, English, Dutch whatever.
I honestly don't care if anyone gets offended by that because it's the truth. Yes other races oppress and victimize, but the fact remains that every race has been oppressed by whites whether it be through colonialism, slavery, indentured servitude or what have you. I started an exchange with this person hoping to enlighten him but all I saw was how dangerous hatred combined with ignorance can be. We in NY all wondered how Bush got re-elected and why there's even a war with Iraq. Well it's because of people like Billy Bob (Not his real name). These people live in Middle America or the South and they believe whatever the media has to tell them. They judge and make condemnations against Islam while most of them have never even seen a Muslim in real life. Well I'm going to post all of the e-mail exchanges I've had with Billy Bob. My Neighbor's Dog
Wow two posts in one night. When's the last time that happened? My neighbors recently got this cute dog because their other dog died. From a window on the second floor of my house you can see the side of their house which is where the dog's house is. Today I looked out the window and started whistling and the dog couldn't figure out where the sound was coming from. It was hilarious lol. He was looking all around him for like 5 minutes. Then he finally looked up and saw me and started growling. I wanted him to like me so I threw pieces of halal bacon out the window for him. It worked cause after he ate it he started wagging his tail and he stopped growling at me. Now everytime I stick my head out the window and whistle, he wags his tail. I'm like Pavlov. My question is, is it ok to give bacon to dogs? I used to feed the neighbors other dog before it died. Geez I hope that's not what killed it. I'll just give him a little bit so he won't get sick. Today I only gave him 1/4 of the strip of bacon. I wish I could have a dog :o/

Are There Rats in Your Favorite Restaurants?
I stumbled across this website a few days ago that gives you the results of food inspections from NYC restaurants. I was absolutely disgusted by what I read. I wouldn't say I'm a germophobe and certain violations I'm willing to overlook, but one thing I can't ignore is the presence of rats or other vermin in a restaurant I eat from. While I haven't gotten sick from eating out, alhamdulilah, I'm still grossed out. I will never eat anything from another Dunkin Donuts. No more bagels, donuts, or cookies. It seems that every Dunkin Donuts near me has rats. I'm also never eating from Tangra Masala or Bahar until I see results from another inspection. Those two restaurants were among my favorites but rats are a deal breaker. I can never eat from there again without thinking about the rats. On the bright side Tangra Wok, which is a Tangra Masala ripoff basically, got a positive review so I guess I'll be going there from now on.
Most of the halal places I frequent had minor violations, but only the two that I named above had evidence of rodents. I encourage you all to check this website out before you eat out again. http://167.153.150.32/RI/web/index.do?method=goldenAppleList Maybe you're better off not knowing. I mean this information didn't hurt me until I knew it. It's the old Matrix question. Are better off knowing or not? I'm glad I checked it though.

Free Palestine
It's been a while since I posted. I know I'm totally inconsistent when it comes to posting, but it takes a lot for me to actually sit down and gather my thoughts and then write it up. I get so easily distracted. Unless I really have something to say, I can't make a post. Sometimes I want to write posts but just not bad enough to actually do it. Story of my life. I have to decide to myself if I really wanna do something before I actually put the effort into doing it. Well I was inspired by this list that my brother sent me regarding Israel/Palestine, which I'll post following my little spiel. Those of you who know me pretty much already know how I feel about the situation in Palestine. It angers me and it frustrates me to say the least. Most of the charity I contribute goes to that cause. I just can't understand how in this modern world such oppression goes on. Unfortunately the powers that be don't think helping people is worthwhile unless it benefits them in some way. People in Palestine and Darfur and Rwanda can't exactly do much for the US.
I don't condone suicide bombings and neither does Islam, but at some point you have to wonder what makes people so desperate that they'd go blow themselves up. I think it's the hopelessness of the whole situation. These people are in a situation where they're being victimized and no one's trying to help and they feel like there's nothing they can do about it but take out as many Israelis as possible. Again, I do NOT agree with that. As a Muslim, I don't think innocent people should die for the mistakes of the Israeli government. However, I can say that because I live in the US and I have a nice comfortable house that no one is bulldozing so that they can move in on the land that I've been on for years. I can say trust in Allah, He will take care of everything because I'm not in their position. If I were living in Palestine I don't know if I could just pray and have patience. InshAllah next summer if all goes according to plan, I hope to travel to Palestine with my brother and volunteer with the Red Crescent. Those of us who are in positions to help our Muslim brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering from oppression, famine, diseases, and other tragedies should definitely do so. I don't expect everyone to go abroad, but do what you can. Without further ado here's that list:
1. Did you know that non-Jewish Israelis cannot buy or lease land in Israel? A Jew from any country in the world is guaranteed citizenship in Israel, while the Palestinians who have been there for centuries are oppressed and persecuted.
2. Did you know that instead of sewing an insignia on clothing to distinguish race (like the Germans did to the Jews before WW2), Palestinian license plates in Israel are color coded to distinguish Jews from non-Jews?
3. Did you know that East Jerusalem, the West Bank, Gaza, and the Golan Heights are all considered by the entire world community, including the United States and the United Nations, to be occupied territory and NOT part of the State of Israel?
4. Did you know that Israel allots 85% of the water resources for Jews, and the remaining 15% is divided among all Palestinians in the territories? For example in Hebron, 85% of the water is set aside for about 400 Jewish settlers, while the remaining 15% is distributed among Hebron's 120, 000 Palestinians?
5. Did you know that the United States awards Israel $5 billion in aid each year from American tax dollars?
6. Did you know that US aid to Israel ($3.0 billion annually) exceeds the aid the US grants to the entire African continent? This aid is used both to buy American weaponry and to buy arms made in Israel.
7. Did you know that Israel is awaiting an additional $4 billion worth of American military hardware, including new F-16s and Apache and Blackhawk helicopters. As Israel's main ally and supporter internationally, the United States is committed to maintaining the Jewish state's "qualitative edge" in weapons over its neighbors.
8. Did you know that the U.S. administration has notified Congress on numerous occasions that Israel has violated the rules on how US-supplied weapons are used? (In 1978, 1979 and 1982 during fighting in Lebanon, and once after Israel's bombing of an Iraqi nuclear reactor in 1981.)
